Boxing, Fencing and Krav Maga
Boxing
The Hawke's Bay Youth Trust was established in 2015 by former New Zealand boxing champion, Craig McDougall, to work with the Youth of Hawke's Bay, by using Olympic-style boxing with the aim to instil discipline and improve the health and wellbeing of the youth within our community.
We currently operate Giants Boxing Academy under the Hawkes Bay Youth Trust umbrella. Being located at Mitre 10 Park in Hastings enables us a wide reach and greater access into our local communities. Moving to a purpose-built facility at Mitre 10 Park provides a permanent and sustainable home for the Hastings Giants Boxing Academy. The amenities of the facility permit the development of more coaches and more boxing classes, enabling growth in Olympic style amateur boxing in Hawke’s Bay. It will provide a pathway from participation to performance and excellence.
Our members and their whanau have a diverse range of needs and come to us from throughout Hawke's Bay. Our charity uses boxing as a “vehicle” to support young people and their whanau living lives they value and reaching those that need health and well-being support.
It is our goal within our Academy to get young people and their Whanau on the right track towards reaching their full potential, and more importantly achieving happiness and security by taking a “whatever it takes” mentoring approach. We encourage young people to learn fitness, discipline, and important core values of respect, self-control and dignity.
We create and foster an environment within our academy and schools where we support our members and their whanau to live a life they value. Our foundation is built upon three pillars which we trust will create a sense of belonging, self-worth and confidence. We want our members to Belong-Believe-Become.
